Secrets of a Side Nigga: Episode 1

Hey ya’ll Hey!

Back with another review!!!

This is gonna be a quick one because the book itself is pretty short!

Today’s book is Secrets of a Side Nigga: Episode 1 by Quan Millz!

Okay…lol…so the book is about Rodney Williams aka “A-Rod”…he just got out of prison for movin’ weight.

Obviously, being a’s hard to find steady work that pays decent, and he doesn’t want to go back to the streets so he asks his friend for suggestions.

LMAO! So here’s the catch…his friend’s sister Meka…has a business, and she wants to hire Rodney.

He has nowhere to stay, no money…nothing. So he takes her up on her offer.

I’m laughing because Rodney thinks Meka is 9 years old!

This book is a hot ass mess, and I’m pretty sure Quan did this on purpose…

My side was hurting the whole time I was reading it because it was that crazy!!! Rodney talking about Meka had me in tears. Now I’m wondering what’s up with her.

Is it weird I want to read more about Boss Bitch Meka??? LMAO!

Short people, 9 year olds, 20 inch penises….it’s hilarious.

It’s a short read…so read it! It made me laugh, and got me pumped for the day.

This Game Called Love

Hey Ya’ll Hey!

Book review time!

Today’s book is This Game Called Love by Tana B.

Teyanna “Tey” Hunt is the main character in this book. She’s 18, got a good head on her shoulders, loving family…but she has one problem: Her boyfriend Frederick aka Rico. He has a huge problem with cheating and keeping his hands to himself. But Tey is too scared to tell anybody about the REAL Rico, so it continues until he gets locked up for 2 months, and she decides to move on with her life.

Of course, Rico doesn’t want to let go, so when he gets out, he tries mulitple times to get her back, but she is ducking and dodging him.

She eventually meets Terrence aka Terror, and they end up dating….getting all romantical and what not. Rico gives her a warning to leave him alone or he will kill him, but she doesn’t let that deter her, and she continues to see him. She loves these bad boys I tell you.

I have no idea why she didn’t tell Terror what was going on if she was gonna continue to see him…that was reallllllly dumb on her part. *yes, I’m talking like these are real people*

Like…seriously ya’ll…what if Rico would have made good on that threat and caught Terror off guard? She would be the first one crying and hollering it’s her fault.

But anyways.

Rico is deadset on getting Tey back and he even enlists one of her “friends” to  help rid the world of Terror.  I despise the name Eboni…for other reasons…but this just goes to show you cannot trust nobody with this name. LMAO!

Does he succeed? I don’t know. 🙂

There’s a few other characters in the book that have their own issues, mainly Tey’s friends. I do wonder if Taj will get with Jonathan…she’s been with Gina for so long…does she even really want a man? (ohhh…see how I got you all intrigued? You thought Taj was a man huh?)

There’s a few secrets in this book that I won’t give away..because I like the element of surprise! All I can say is…Rico is nasty AND crazy…and he a little gay too (Robyn, how can you be a “little” gay?) but chile…*sips tea*

The book ends with a to be continued…(ya’ll like playing games with me) ending with Terror’s cousin Bishop getting shot..and Tey’s best friend Lo in a trap house, that was apparently rigged with a bomb. I don’t know what THAT’S about, but I need that other part so I can get to the bottom of that…ok Ms. Tana B.? Like…yesterday. HA!

Tey thinks Lo is dead…I read the part and think she dead too..but anything can happen!

Overall, this was a good read…I always think a book is great if it can make me dislike the character, and I disliked a few of these people. It was enough focus on Tey and Terror (or TNT as he called them), so I didn’t mind the additional characters and their problems. I felt it was a nice balance so I wasn’t distracted or annoyed, and I didn’t feel like anything was left out. I wouldn’t have guessed at all that this is her first book.

Lyric’s Epic Love Story

Hey ya’ll!

Back at it again with another review.

Today’s review is Lyric’s Epic Love Story by Nek Hickmon.

First…let me just say, I’m sitting here mad as hell at Nek because she left me hanging in this book. I was soooo ready to keep reading until she hits my ass with a “To be continued”

We are friends on FB…so I WILL harrass you if I don’t get another book soon! HA!

OK, now that I got that out the way lemme tell you…

The book’s main characters are Lyric and Epic (clever title makes sense now right?)

Lyric, at the beginning of the book, is on the cusp of graduating high school, and has plans to move out her mother’s house. She’s been selling pills and saving up so she can do just that. In the beginning of the book, you can tell off the bat why she’s ready to move, and I don’t blame her.

First, her raggedy ass sister Kaliyah is always taking her clothes and wearing them…which lets you know she’s disrespectful as hell. And if that’s not enough for you, the heffa is sleeping with her mother’s boyfriend Paul! Tsk.

Anyways, Lyric befriends Epic when he starts selling with her, and she shows him the ropes. They become best friends, despite the small age difference. Eventually they fall for each other, but Epic already has a girlfriend he doesn’t really want to let go (doesn’t want to hurt her …tuh)

The girlfriend’s name is Shae, and she got on my nerves. I see why her and Kaliyah became “friends.” Both of them had 2 things in common: they wanted Epic, and they HATED Lyric. (Read the book to learn more about that) Epic eventually tells Shae to kick rocks, but that’s not it for her. She sets out a plan in motion, with the help of Kane to get Epic back and Lyric out his face.

So of course, once Lyric and Epic are official, bad things start to happen. Somebody is out to get his mother, somebody is out to get him, and somebody snatches Lyric.

But Robyn…

Who takes Lyric?

🙂 That’s for me to know, and you to find out.

This book was everything. It was fluid…every scene moved nicely and fit perfectly together. Nothing seemed rush. It gave a nice element of surprise because I was NOT expecting some of the things that happened, to happen.

I’m glad that it ended the way it did..not really a happy ending, but leaves you anticipating the next book to find out what’s going to happen to these characters.

It’s funny..because I follow Nek, and she seemed so anxious and nervous about the book coming out, and I was reading it thinking, “Girl what was you nervous for????? This book is good af!”

My only complaint…is that there weren’t anymore pages and now I gotta wait. HA

This book just reminds you that not all family cares about you, and sometimes crazy women just can’t let go and will stop at NOTHING to either get you back or ruin your life.

Jonesing: Pseudo Love

Hey Ya’ll Hey!

Today’s book is Jonesing: Pseudo Love by Keys

If you’ve read Medicinal Love by Keys, then you should be familiar with “Jones” aka Blair. (And you already know about the nursing…so I won’t spend too much time on that)

This is basically a standalone book based on her character, explaining why she is the way she is. Her mother Delores Jones….was a strange woman. You could tell she didn’t really too much wanna deal with Jones, as she does enough to keep her alive. lol

Like most children, she longs for a mother she can learn from and talk to about…well, anything. Luckily for her, her dad, Vincent Jones, is a dream! He showers her with affection, tries to give her candy after dinner (I say tries bc Delores be waiting for that ass around the corned for the butterscotch)

Eventually Delores and Vincent divorces, and Vincent drops the bomb that he is not Jones’ biological father, but when she asks him if Delores is really her mother, he goes into hush mode.

Jones finally becomes free, goes off to college, and starts wildin’ out. She meets a few dudes….a few women…(including this one crazy heffa they call Gerry), a few friends…loses one of those friends…but gains a lifetime friend, Sky…who even helps her figure out the whole Delores mystery.

Which is basically the main plot of the book. IS Delores Jones’ mother???

She certainly doesn’t act like one, and she does several shady things throughout the book until Vincent passes and Jones decides she has had enough of her shit. She drops a bomb on her own that she knows who Delores really is.

There goes that Robyn being a vague again.

Point is, Delores made me want to slap her to sleep, and Jones’…I wanted her to get it together. She reminded me of Nurse Jackie…if you’ve seen that show, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

The book seemed way longer that the 210 pages Kindle told me it was. I found myself itching to get to the end to see what was up with Delores. She was really strange, but reminded me of someone…so I had my own personal issues with this character.

I wish they would have maybe touched more on why Delores did what she did, and why she treated Jones how she treated her. I feel like their resolve was way too quick, and once other characters moved in, the book started to move into another direction. I didn’t care for some of the characters taking up space in the book and then disappearing, and the ending left me wondering if there will be another book attached to these characters.

All in all, it was a different read. Not like anything I’ve reviewed so far!

A Bawss Love Story : Empress and Scar

Hey hey hey!

Back at it again with another review.

I’ve been super salty today because I wanted to go see this author, but other things got in the way.

She is everything ya’ll….she gives me life! And she is one of my FAVES! For real for real.

Oh, we talking about the book tho. HA! The book for today is A Bawss Love Story: Empress and Scar by Joi Miner

Um…I don’t even know where to begin guys. This book had me all the way in my feels.

Like all the way in my feels.

The book has multiple characters, but I will try to focus on Empress. The book is a standalone, so it’s pretty long.

Shatika “Empress” Tibideaux is married to Jayontae “Tae” Tibideaux and they have built an empire together. (an illegal one, but an empire nevertheless) The book starts off with everything going smooth until the Feds come and this is where it gets interesting.

Empress decides to take the charge for Tae (he begs her multiple times to let him do it, but you will learn that she is hella stubborn and does what she wants to do), but she wants to ride or die for her man. (not me, tuh…he woulda been in there…but then it wouldn’t be much of a story now would it?)

She ends up getting a few years, and things don’t work in her favor while on the inside. She has one of the CO’s sleeping with her husband (the reason escapes me right now because I’m hype)…and this particular CO ends up pregnant, and Tae ends up leaving Empress ass in there while he is parading this heffa around town.

Once she gets out, sigh…basically ya’ll Tae ain’t shit.

For MULTIPLE reasons.

He tries to kill his mother.

He has multiple women doing his dirty work.

He turns his back on his wife and her brother, who helped him when he had nothing.

He wants to raise his children to become lil demons.

He doesn’t give a damn about nobody but himself.

He’s a snitch.

He’s a bitch.

OK. Now that I got that out the way. Let’s talk about Scar right quick. Carangelo “Scar” de la Cruz is heir to a cartel in the DR, and his father is on the run and left Carangelo in Empress’ brother, Show, care. Obviously, he falls in love with Empress, but she has her head so far up Tae’s ass, she pays him no mind until Tae shows how much of an evil troll he is…and it’s up to her to end his reign of terror.

Which was frustrating as hell, because one of my favorite characters die…and I feel it could have been avoided had Empress stopped being a chump.

But I understand.

Who is my favorite character you ask? Tae’s mother.

Read the book to find why. 🙂

It’s a long book, like I said…but it’s VERY entertaining. And I’m not just saying that because it’s Joi. I found myself laughing, being mad, being annoyed…I even cried a few times. I became emotionally attached to some of these characters. I felt Pablo’s pain. I wanted to KILL Tae. I wanted to slap Empress a few times.

I wish, however…that I was able to read more about Empress and Scar…I NEED a follow up on them…pretty please Ms. Joi?

Love, Lust & Secrets: A Chi-Town Love Affair

Ya’ll know what time it is!

Book review time!

Today’s book is Love, Lust & Secrets: A Chi-Town Love Affair by Manda P

I can’t spill too much, because I honestly want you to read it! This is so juicy! HA! Finally, a book where the man is damn near perfect and it’s the WOMAN holding secrets.

The main characters are Apu Washington and Aji Kint. Apu is one of the top stylists in Chicago. Hair is her life! Her IG is dedicated to the many heads she has done, and she is always doing research to perfect her craft. She’s about her business ya’ll! She’s made it a rule not to date anybody she works with, or any clients who come in…that is until she meets Aji.

Aji…sigh. Oh Aji. He’s a businessman, and single father to Ali. (I love these 3 letter names…so easy to remember) He has a community center dedicated to helping the youth, and when he’s not there, he’s with his son, teaching him how to be the perfect gentleman. But all is not perfect in his world, as he has to deal with bi-polar baby mama Veda, who wants nothing more than for them to be a family. She reminds me of somebody I know in real life, but this is a review…not a shadefest.

Anyways. He comes across Apu during her lunch run, and again when he ends up being her client. She tries to uphold her rule, but he eventually breaks her down. They start (slowly, but surely) falling for one another, but Apu has a second job that nobody knows about. I mean some people know but they don’t KNOW KNOW.

Babayyyyy….that second job threw me for a loop. Manda…why you do me like that? I thought it would have been a secret child…a hidden penis…something…(I’m kidding….I’m kidding)

But like I was saying…she has another “job” nobody knows about, as she goes to great lengths to keep those 2 worlds apart. Like my luck, as soon as her contract is almost up, someone is leaving her clues that they know who she is.

They don’t want to burst her bubble though…they just want her. And they are going to get her. Even if it’s involuntary.

I know, I know.

But Robyn…

What’s her second job?

Who wants her?

What you mean involuntary?

What happens with Aji?

Read. The. Book.

You Ain’t The Only One, Trying To Be The Only One

Hey Hey Hey!

Late, but I’m back! Today’s book is You Ain’t The Only One, Trying To Be The Only One by my fellow Dallas native boo Ash Ley.

Um, let me say…I was hooked from the first couple of paragraphs!

The book starts off really juicy with Gia and Quincy together (you will understand why this is a mess in a minute…) at Quincy’s home. Everything seems to have went fine for the evening between these two…until his WIFE Raquel comes home early from her trip.

But the gag is…she knows he sleeps around…and she kind of don’t mind because she gets bangin’ “I’m Sorry” gifts.  She came home early on purpose. Gia, on the other hand is upset when she sees that Raquel is pregnant. Of course Quincy told her he doesn’t sleep with his wife anymore, so how could this be? (Because Raquel might be a thot thot thot)

Anyways…Gia ends up getting the cops called on her by Raquel, and we start back to the beginning with a flashback on how Gia and Quincy met.

Here we learn a little more background on Gia. She’s never met her parents, and her grandparents are the only caregivers she’s known. They take great care of her up until her grandfather passes, and her grandmother is diagnosed with brain cancer. After the life insurance from her grandfather’s death starts to dwindle, she starts looking for a job, and lands at Sinful Delights, a strip club that Quincy owns.

His right hand man Sean hires Gia, so Quincy knows nothing about her until he comes back from his trip. But when he DOES see her, he’s automatically uncomfortable because she doesn’t look old enough to work at the strip club. (She ends up actually only being 17..but you will have to read the book to get more tea)

So now that I gave ya’ll a lil snippet..let me tell you the good. It was a good book! The writing was great, the storyline was good, the characters were a mess. I grew to dislike Gia ass. She cried damn near every other page. I’m like suck that up and handle your business Gia…all that damn crying.  Tuh. I think every single woman in this book got on my last nerves. They all made dumb ass decisions, and wanted to cry about it afterwards.

You should never want to keep a man so bad that you let him step out on you!

The bad…isn’t really a bad. The book is pretty long…so it makes a good read when you space it out. Which explains why it took me an extra day to finish it because I wanted to make sure I enjoy the books before I give you my opinions. And it’s why I couldn’t spill much tea on the book. I would have ended up telling the entire book!
